Sydney Law School is proud to host an event to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Papua New Guinea’s independence with special guest, Dame Meg Taylor. Dame Meg is a lawyer, diplomat, and former Secretary-General to the Pacific Islands Forum and has been involved in constitutional processes in Papua New Guinea.
This talk with be facilitated by Professor Ben Saul, Challis Chair of International Law at the University of Sydney and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms while Countering Terrorism.
This talk will reflect on Papua New Guinea’s constitutional challenges since independence, as well as the legal framework that will support Papua New Guinea’s democracy against the tidewinds of climate change and changing geopolitical power in the Pacific
