2024 AAPS Epeli Hau’ofa Annual Memorial Lecture

Rev. James Shri Bhagwan, “The Ocean is Us”

 

Join us for an enlightening evening as Rev. James Shri Bhagwan, General Secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches and a passionate advocate for climate justice, ocean and coastal protection, and gender justice, shares his insights on the Blue Pacific Continent. Reverend Bhagwan will explore the physical, ecological, strategic, and spiritual dimensions of the Pacific, engaging in intimate talanoa (conversation) to delve into what it means to be of and in the Pacific in the 21st Century.

The Lecture is being presented in partnership with the Edmund Rice Centre for Justice and Community Education, and the Australian Museum, and is set to be a great event!

Wansolmoana (One Salt Ocean) Gallery Tours

Before the lecture, Australian Museum staff will be running tours of the Australian Museum’s new Pasifika Gallery, Wansolmoana (One Salt Ocean).

Wansolmoana Gallery tours will be held at 4.30pm and 5.30pm. The lecture will commence promptly at 6.30pm in the Theatre. Light refreshments will be served in Hintze Hall following the lecture.

Ticketing
Tickets for this event are free, but registration is essential. Early bird tickets will be available exclusively for AAPS members and Edmund Rice Centre networks, with a general public release following shortly after. AAPS members will receive registration details via email (anticipated on the morning of 5 March). We expect a high level of interest and encourage members to keep an eye out for the email and act quickly! If you are not yet a member of AAPS, but would like to be so, go here.

Epeli Hau’ofa Post-grad Dialogue
On Friday, April 5th, Reverend Bhagwan will engage in a dialogue with Honours and Postgraduate students on the theme “Lessons from a PhD drop-out, or how slowly to chew your research: dialogue with a prac-ademic”. This discussion will explore the intersections of academia, activism, community, faith, and environment.

Limited spaces are available for Honours to Postgraduate research students, and priority will be given to
Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Australian South Sea Islander/South Sea Islander and Pacific Islander students.
