Applications for Guy Powles conference scholarship now open.
Applications are now welcome from postgraduate students for the Guy Powles Travel Scholarship, to attend and present at the AAPS biennial conference being held in Sydney, 3-6 June 2025.
Dr Guy Powles was a Pacific legal scholar and founding member of AAPS. He acted as auditor and advisor to our organization from its inception in 2004 until his passing in 2016. For more about Guy Powles see the 2017 AAPS newsletter.
Each scholarship is valued at up to $800, to go towards accommodation and travel costs, plus free conference registration. Applications are due by 9 May, and successful applicants will be notified by 16 May. The award will be paid as a reimbursement for expenses incurred in travelling to the conference.
To apply, please send a short paragraph (max 300 words) describing your research and how it reflects principles and themes of Pacific studies. Please also provide confirmation of the acceptance of your paper to the conference, and give an indication of the anticipated costs of your travel, and whether you have other funding support available to you. Applications should be sent to AAPS Secretary Talei Mangioni at talei.mangioni@anu.edu.au.
Two scholarships will be awarded, assessed on the basis of the work being presented at the conference, alignment with AAPS values and vision, and financial need.
Applicants must be currently enrolled as a postgraduate student, and must be a current (paid-up) student member of AAPS.
